Hello! I’m Kayla, owner of Kayla Rice Photography.

I am a Boston-based documentary wedding and family lifestyle photographer. I grew up in Southern Vermont and began my venture into the world of photography as a teenager with classes at In-Sight Photography, a wonderful non-profit in Brattleboro, VT. I decided that photojournalism was the path I wanted to take and made the decision to study at Syracuse University where I earned my B.S. in Photojournalism in 2013.

To be honest, I never meant to end up as a documentary wedding photographer. I started out as a newspaper photojournalist in Vermont, then worked as a team photographer for the New York Mets for 6 years (don’t worry, I’ve always been a proud Sox fan!). Those jobs were fulfilling and amazing in their own ways, but over the years, I discovered a real love for documenting love.

From the very first wedding I assisted at in 2014, I was hooked. After that, I found time whenever I could in my schedule to photograph weddings, and the more weddings I photographed, the more I realized how they allowed me to capture the moments I love most; moments full of emotion, connection, and love.

In 2021, my husband Rob and I moved to Boston (a move closer to family and friends for both of us) and I made the decision to jump head first into running Kayla Rice Photography full time. I’m so happy to be here!

Wedding & family lifestyle photojournalism is a dream job for me. It allows me to flex my strength in narrative, journalistic photography by telling the story of your wedding day or your family’s love as a journalist would, from the margins, without becoming a character in that story. I value creating honest, candid images that reflect the truth, emotion, & importance of your relationships and love. I believe it’s an honor to capture these intimate moments and truly appreciate the trust and openness given to me to allow me to do what I do.
